Currency turmoil bedevils the region and China's successive devaluations this week have sent the Malaysian ringgit and Indonesia to fresh lows threatening demand for the forthcoming tender season. While China's RMB had slumped 3% so far this week against the US dollar at press time, neighbouring currencies also came under renewed pressure. Malaysia's ringgit fell to its lowest level against the US dollar since 1998 on August 12 while Indonesia's rupiah dropped to a 17-year low.
