Tel Aviv—Israel's Environmental Protection Ministry has delayed the tender for setting up an ammonia production plant in southern Israel until mid-August. Bids were last due May 16 (GM March 11,p. 13). The newplantwouldlead to the shutdown of the existing 12,000 mt ammonia storage facility owned by Haifa Chemicals in Haifa. This is the second delay in the final date for submitting bids for the project. Experts estimate that it will take 36 months from the time a contract is signed until production begins atanewammoniaplant, which would be based on domestic gas.
