Fibrant to close Augusta caprolactam plant; 500-600 employees affected

The Fibrant LLC caprolactam plant in Augusta, Ga., which operated for decades under the DSM Chemicals name, will shut down by the end of 2017 due to low caprolactam prices and "global supply and demand dynamics," according to a June 30 statement from Netherlands-based Fibrant. The Augusta closure is expected to take approximately 16 months to complete, and will affect 500-600 full-time and contract employees as Fibrant carries out a "gradual wind down" of its U.S. business.
