Mosaic 2Q income up 58 percent; lowers full-year K estimates; Brazil a sore spot

The Mosaic Co. reported second-quarter 2015 net earnings of $391 million ($ 1.08 per diluted share) on net sales of $2.49 billion, up from the year-ago $248.4 million ($0.64 per share) and $2.44 billion. The company said the year-over-year change was driven by higher phosphate operating earnings, primarily as a result of higher sales volumes; higher potash operating earnings as a result of higher realized prices and benefits from lower operating costs, particularly lower MOP costs, now put at $89/mt; and lower phosphate rock costs.
