SQM 4Q net income off 51 percent, FY 28 percent; low prices offset higher volumes

Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile SA's (SQM) net income was off 51 percent for the fourth quarter ending Dec. 31,2013, to $69 million ($0.26 per share) on sales of $492.2 million, down from the year-ago $141.8 million ($0.54 per share) on sales of $601 million. Full-year income was off 28 percent, to $467.1 million ($1.77 per share) on sales of $2.2 billion, down from the year-ago $649.2 million ($2.47 per share) and $2.43 billion, respectively.
