NYLON PULLS DEMAND FOR CAPROLACTAM

Sumitomo Chemical will increase the capacity of a capro-lactam facility in Japan by 12% during a scheduled month-long turnaround.The 160 000 tonne/year unit at Ehime prefecture will be shut for 30 days in the second half of October and the plant s capacity will be raised to 180 000 tonne/year.Downstream nylon chip facilities being added in Taiwan and China are resulting in robust demand for caprolactam,with plants in Asia operating at close to 90% of capacity.
