As economy looks up, SAIL revives plan for steel SEZ

SAIL has revived its plan to develop a special economic zone (SEZ) at Salem in Tamil Nadu by starting afresh with a steadfast partner, as India's largest steelmaker tries to match a voracious steel demand in domestic and foreign markets. The state-run company has invited fresh expressions of interest (Eols) for the joint venture project that was stalled in the first half of 2009 after the exit of IL&FS Infrastructure Development Corporation. HDC the advisory and project development offshoot of infrastructure major IL&FS Group, had cited the then crisis-racked economic scene for its decision to walk out of the MoU.
