Nexen has completed the sale of a 40% stake of its northeast British Columbia shale gas assets to a consortium led by Japan's Inpex Corp for US $700m. The $700m will be paid 50% in cash and a 50% capital carry, effective 1 July 2011. Following the deal, Nexen remains operator in the assets in the Horn River, Cordova and Liard basins with a 60% stake, while Inpex Gas British Columbia (IGBC), which is jointly established by Inpex and JGC Corp, holds the remaining 40%.
