China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) on Apr. 15 announced the launch of China's biggest LNG carrier to date, the Pan Asia, in Shanghai. With a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters, or about 70,000 tons, the vessel is bigger than a standard-sized 60,000-ton LNG tanker. It will be used to ship 1.5 million tons/yr of LNG from the 8.5 million tons/yr Queensland Curtis LNG terminal in Australia to China once the project starts up in 2017 (IOD Nov.26'15). CNOOC partners BG, recently acquired by Royal Dutch Shell, at the development.
