UK Seizes Assets of Former Nigerian Oil Minister

The spotlight on corruption in Nigeria's oil and gas sector is intensifying both at home and abroad, with former oil minister Diezani Alison- Madueke now at the center of a London police probe into suspected bribery and money laundering offenses. Alison-Madueke was arrested in London on Friday by the UK National Crime Agency's (NCA) recently formed International Corruption Unit, and appeared at Charing Cross police station. She has not been charged, and was released pending an ongoing investigation, sources confirmed. On Monday, London magistrates ruled that assets seized from the minister last weekend should be detained for a further six months.
