UK Oil, Gas Output Plunges

UK indigenous oil and gas production fell steeply last year, according to 2012 provisional data released by the government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) on Thursday. Oil production fell by 14.3% to only 890,000 b/d, due to a double whammy of long-term decline and maintenance on big fields such as Buzzard. Both trends are likely to continue into 2013 with the BP-run Schiehallion field, west of Shetland, recently having begun a three-year scheduled shutdown for redevelopment; the decline may temporarily level off in 2014-15 (IOD Mar.14’13).
