Kuwait Prepares for Big Surge in LNG Imports

Kuwait intends to drastically boost LNG imports to meet growing domestic power demand, with plans under consideration to import as much as 23 million tons of LNG by 2020, a top Kuwaiti official says. Currently importing LNG through a temporary facility for only part of the year, gas-short Kuwait is preparing plans to construct a permanent facility that will have the capacity to receive 3 billion cubic feet per day of gas, says Bakheet al-Rashidi, deputy chairman of state firm Kuwait National Petroleum Co. (KNPC).
