Gazprom Slams Ukraine’s Reverse Gas Scheme

Russian state gas giant Gazprom has accused Ukraine of facilitating a “fraudulent scheme” in order to obtain reverse shipments of the company’s gas from Europe, further escalating energy tensions between the two countries. Speaking to Russian press, Gazprom Chief Executive Alexei Miller said on Saturday that Kiev plans to “use Gazprom’s gas through some virtual reverse,” which is “reminiscent of some fraudulent schemes and one needs to deal with it.” He added that the scheme was being applied by technically manipulating gas-measuring stations, believing that Kiev is running Russian gas to the European border before turning it around for its own use.
