Daily rates for very large crude carriers (VLCCs) continued to sink in January as a result of higher bunker fuel rates and overcapacity, according to maritime research group Drewry. Rates fell 16% to $13,000 per day in January along the benchmark Mideast Gulf to Asia route even as demand from Asia picked up steam (IOD Jan.28’13).
