Latest trade data from the International Energy Agency (IEA) show just how damaging an Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would be for Europe’s lifeblood flow of jet fuel imports (IOD Jan.9’12). Europe was reliant on imports to meet one-third of its 1.17 million barrels per day jet fuel demand last year, with more than two-fifths of imports passing through the chokepoint between Iran and Oman last year, according to Energy Intelligence estimates. That is up from one-third in 2010.
