Gazprom Fined for Illegal Drilling

Russia’s Gazprom was fined 400,000 rubles ($12,684) by state environmental protection agency Rosprirodnadzor for illegal drilling at its West Kamchatka Block in the Russian Far East, according to media reports this week citing the Kamchatka territory prosecutor’s office. The drilling of the N1 exploration well on the main structure of the West Kamchatka Block started on Sep. 3 and reportedly halted in late October, as it was declared illegal because of the absence of a positive ecological impact assessment. The well was reportedly drilled to the depth of around 400 meters out of its projected depth of 3,500 meters.
