First Meeting Held for US-Iraqi Energy Committee

Senior officials from the US and Iraq convened in Washington this week for the inaugural meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee on Energy (JCC) -- a bilateral forum to advance production and export of Iraq's oil and natural gas reserves. In addition to developing Iraq's hydrocarbon resources, the committee has been set up to explore collaborative opportunities to stabilize Iraq's power generation sector, protect key energy infrastructure and enhance the investment environment for international companies, says Carlos Pascual, the State Department's coordinator for international energy affairs and a co-chair of the JCC.
