Indonesia May Sweeten Shale Gas Terms to Replicate US Success

Indonesia may sweeten investment terms for shale gas exploration and development in a bid to emulate the US success story and bulk up its own reserves and production. Evita Legowo, director-general of oil and gas at Indonesia's energy ministry, said the government recognizes that shale gas devel- opment is very costly because of the new technologies required. "We are still dis- cussing the terms and conditions for shale gas investors and are considering incentives to encourage them to invest here," Legowo told International Oil Daily on the sidelines of a gas conference. She did not provide any details of the proposed incentives.
