China's Gas Demand Soars

China's apparent consumption of natural gas in July soared more than 24% year-on-year to 10.3 Bcm (11.73 Bcf/d), the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said on Monday. The agency said this is a new high, eclipsing the previous record set in February. Total imports of natural gas and LNG in July more than doubled from the same month last year to 2.7 Bcm (3.08 Bcf/d) (IOD Aug.10'11). LNG volumes totaled 1.5 Bcm (1.71 Bcf/d), while pipeline imports from Turkmenistan amounted to 1.2 Bcm (1.37 Bcf/d). Between January and July, China's gas imports doubled year-on-year to 16.8 Bcm (2.8 Bcf/d).
