China Aviation Oil (CAO), the near-monopoly jet fuel supplier to mainland China and the largest jet fuel buyer in Asia, saw jet trading volumes in the first quarter of 2011 jump 55% year-on-year to 2.08 million tons, or nearly 90,600 b/d. Volumes supplied to mainland China "registered moderate increases year-on-year," the company said, without providing a figure. China's apparent jet demand in the first quarter rose 10.9% to 384,440 b/d (IOD Apr.25,p4). The total volume of products traded leapt 50% to 2.19 million tons. In recent years, CAO has branched out into fuel oil and petrochemicals trading, although jet fuel remains its core business.
