Rockhopper Exploration said Monday it has identified two new prospects near its Sea Lion discovery in the North Falkland Basin that could extend the play (IOD Aug.10'11). The UK-listed firm said initial 3-D seismic data from its 100%-owned PL032 and PL033 licenses show the Sea Lion main complex incorporates two fan prospects - Casper and Kermit - sourced from the main feeder channel east of wells 14/10-5 and 14/10-2. The findings indicate the discovery goes beyond the southern boundary of license PL032 into license PL004 - operated by Desire Petroleum, where Rockhop-per has a 7.5% working interest - adding around 10% to the discovery in PL004. It says it believes "recovery rates of 30%-40% could be achievable using industry standard production techniques" and that its mid-case estimate for Sea Lion is now 1.086 billion bbl of oil, delivering an estimate of 325 mil-lion-434 million bbl for recoverable reserves.
