Libya’s National Oil Corp. (NOC) and Italy’sEni said they “initiated testing activities” onThursday to put natural gas into their 50-50owned Greenstream export pipeline, whichruns from Mellitah on the western coast ofLibya to the Sicilian town of Gela in Italy.Eni said testing marks “the preliminaryrestart of pipeline operations” after Green-stream flows halted on Feb. 22 amid grow-ing unrest in Libya. Gas exports via Green-stream last year totaled 8.65 Bcm (837 MM-cf/d), or 10.7% of Italian gas consumption, whereas initial test flows will be just 3.1MMcm/d (110 MMcf/d) — one-eighth oflast year’s pipe flow — with all the gas coming from the Wafa field 500 km southwest ofTripoli. Wafa has produced gas throughoutthe conflict, enabling power to be generatedand supplied to the local population.
