Royal Dutch Shell said it finally extin-guished a fire at its 500,000 barrel per dayPulau Bukom refinery in Singapore lateThursday and that the plant will remain shutuntil it has wrapped up investigations intothe cause of the blaze (IOD Sep.30’11).The Anglo-Dutch supermajor declined tosay when the refinery — Shell’s biggest —might reopen, with a spokesperson sayingon Friday that “we do not expect any of theunits to be restarted until a thorough investi-gation has been done and we are confidentthat it is safe to do so.” But Reuters quotedindustry sources as saying they expected themassive plant to be shut for at least a month.
