PTT Seeks More LNG

Thailand's state PTT could double LNG imports to 10 million tons/yr if the government suspends plans to build the country's first nuclear power plants in light of the ongoing nuclear crisis in Japan. The Thai energy ministry is thought to have recommended to the National Energy Policy Committee the postponement of two planned 1,000 MW nuclear plants after the International Atomic Energy Agency said Thailand is not ready for nuclear power, given public opposition and the absence of relevant legislation. The country had drawn up plans for five nuclear plants from 2020-25.
