US Says Asian Growth Fueled Boost in Global Carbon Emissions

The US Department of Energy (DOE) says global emissions of carbon dioxide caused by the combustion of fossil fuels rose sharply last year, as Asian economies expanded and the after-effects of the 2008 financial crisis faded. Data from the DOE's Oak Ridge Nation- al Laboratory show that global carbon dioxide emissions climbed by around 5.5% to 9.1 billion metric tons in 2010 from 8.6 billion tons in 2009.
