UK utility Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has been given planning permission to build a 108 MW power station fueled by green waste in Yorkshire, northern England. SSE said construction could start in 2012, with completion in early 2015. The power and heat generation plant, costing roughly £250 million ($401 million), will use sustainable feedstocks, including biomass, waste wood and waste-derived fu- els, and be built on the 1 GW Ferrybridge coal power station site, which is due to close in 2015 under EU rules. A pilot carbon cap- ture and storage project is also being devel- oped on the site.
