Debate over the proposed construction/expansion of two pipelines exporting Alberta oil sands crude to Asian markets via Canada's West Coast has entered a new phase after the triumph of Canada's Conservative Party in parliamentary elections last week. Growth in global demand for crude oil, especially from China, combined with depressed crude prices in the US Midwest, has caused Canadian oil sands companies to push for new export avenues.
