UK Gas, Oil Output Slump

UK gas production continued its inexorable decline in the first quarter of 2011 as depleting fields struggled to produce anything like the amounts seen in previous years. Gas output slid 17.7% to 151.38 terawatt hours (14 Bcm), according to figures released Thursday by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). Oil output also fell, down 15.5% to 14.5 million metric tons -or roughly 1.18 million b/d -due to a combination of maintenance outages and naturally depleting output.
