Kuwaiti Oil Chief Sets Out Ambitious Production Growth Plans

Kuwait plans to tap its heavy northern oil fields as well as the Neutral Zone shared with Saudi Arabia to boost production capacity by up to 700,000 barrels per day to 4 million b/d by 2020, a top Kuwaiti oil official said on Wednesday. "From the northern fields, there is a potential increase in capacity of an additional 200,000 b/d," Sami al-Rushaid, chairman and managing director of Kuwait Oil Co. (KOC), told International Oil Daily. For the boost to occur, KOC will need to install three additional gathering centers in the north, which is home to the Ratqa, Raudhatain, Sabriyah and Bahra oil fields, he said.
