Risk management is hardly new to theoil and gas industry, but a panel of topexecutives told the Oil & Money confer-ence in London on Tuesday that the riskshave become both more pronounced andmore complex in recent years.The process of extracting oil and gas is initself risky, subject to the whims of MotherNature and geology that has taken millions ofyears to evolve. But the increased complexityand remoteness of the earth’s remaining re-sources, coupled with more widespread po-litical and economic volatility, mean manage-ment teams have far more factors to balancethan they did, say, 20 years ago.
