Glencore Profits Halve

Commodity trading giant Glencore International reported a 57% fall in net income in the first half of 2009, but said an improving economic situation could aid margins going forward. The Switzerland-based trader saw net profits of $1.121 billion, excluding exceptional items, on overall revenues of $42.2 billion, down 47.5%.
