Japan Petroleum Exploration (Japex) said it is negotiating with the Iraqi authorities to develop the East Baghdad oil field, but a spokesman would not say which part of the field it is after. Iraq plans to hold direct negotiations with companies for the southern portion of the field, to be awarded under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal (IOD Jul.23,p1).
