Earl Stewart had his come-to-Jesus moment on national TV, when a CBS News reporter asked him how he would feel if a customer were killed in a defective used car purchased at his dealership. "That was my slap in the face," Stewart recalls. "I said I would feel absolutely terrible." After the June interview, he "couldn't stop thinking about it," Stewart says. "I said, 'This is stupid. How can I keep selling all of these cars?'"
