The Andersons 3Q fertilizer sales volumes fall

US farm retailer The Andersons sold 370,000st of fertilizer in the third quarter, down by 7pc from the same period last year. The company cited squeezed margins and lower crop prices for lower sales volumes of basic nutrients and specialty products. Volumes for basic nutrients (nitrogen, phosphates and potash) were down by 9pc year-over-year to 219,000st, as farmers and retailers were reluctant to buy amid declin- ing prices. Volumes of other nutrients dropped by 9pc to 73,000t. Specialty nutrient sales volumes totaled 78,000st during the third quarter, on par with sales volumes in 2015.
