US denies permit for west coast coal terminal

Federal authorities have rejected a permit request for theproposed Gateway Pacific coal export terminal in Washingtonstate, saying the project would affect the Lummi Nation’s fishingrights.“The potential impacts to the Lummi Nation’s usual andaccustomed fishing rights” are not minor, the US Army Corps ofEngineers said today.
