Duke retires two North Carolina coal plants

Duke Energy will retire two coal-fired power plants in North Carolina ahead of schedule because of low natural gas prices. The company will retire both plants in April, two years ahead of the originally announced closing date. The 256MW two-unit coal-fired Buck Steam Station and the four-unit 454MW coal-fired Riverbend Steam Station have been producing electricity since the 1920s.
