Upper Mississippi river locks reopen to barges

The US Army Corps of Engineers reopened the last of nine locks along the upper Mississippi river that had been closed earlier this month as flooding overtook the midwest. The agency's Rock Island and St. Louis districts reopened locks 20,22 and 25 yesterday. The Coast Guard is keeping safety zones and advisories in effect for certain parts of the river below those locks, including restricting larger southbound ves-sel traffic around Memphis, Tennessee, and Vicksburg, Mississippi, to daylight hours.
