Southern Copper denies canceling project

Southern Copper Corp. has denied that it has canceled the $1.4-billion Tía María copper project in Peru, as a company executive had said March 27. The company “will continue its best efforts to take the Tía María project forward,” it said. Julio Morriberon, institutional relations director at subsidiary company Southern Peru Copper (SCC), told local radio station RPP that the Tía María project had been canceled following violent protests that he classified as “anti-mining terrorism.”
