摘要

Exercise has long been known to affect energy balance, and some humans who successfully maintain weight loss for several years self-report high levels of physical activity (8, 17,66, 73). In some instances, such self-reported exercise is associated with a normalization of resting energy expenditure in weight-reduced individuals (74). Because of the powerful forces opposing prolonged weight loss, it is likely that prevention of obesity, particularly in children would be a preferred means of stemming the obesity epidemic. While multiple studies have examined the effects of exercise on energy homeostasis in adult rodents (6, 37, 51), only a few have examined early-onset exercise in juvenile animals and explored the possibility that this might prevent the development of obesity (25, 32, 33, 52,64,76).
