Bayer debuts updated LibertyLink soybeans in Brazil

Bayer CropScience has launched its genetically modified glufosinate-tolerant LibertyLink LL55 soybeans in Brazil. The technology will be available for the 2016 planting season, and the company will market it as a key tool in weed resistance management. LibertyLink soybeans confer tolerance to glufosinate-ammonium herbicide. The LL55 event is different to the already commercialised LibertyLink LL27 event. The inserted gene is placed at a different position in the genome. It provides breeders another option for efficiently incorporating the LibertyLink trait into stacked varieties, the company points out. Bayer is marketing LL55 under the LibertyLink brand name and not as a new product: there will be no distinction made to the customer between LL27 and LL55 soybeans.
