Env MEPs again urge ban on GMO import approvals

Members of the European Parliament’s Environment Committee have once again urged the European Commission not to proceed with approvals for the import of genetically modified crop lines. In resolutions adopted in January, the Committee targets three GM soybean lines: Bayer CropScience’s isoxaflutole- and glyphosate-tolerant Balance GT (FG72); Monsanto’s stack of its glyphosate-tolerant and high oleic acid Vistive Gold (MON87705) with its glyphosate-tolerant Roundup Ready 2 Yield (MON89788); and Monsanto’s dicamba- and glyphosate-tolerant Round Ready 2 Xtend (MON87708 x MON89788). The Commission is free to go ahead with its proposed approvals after EU member states could not reach the majority opinion necessary to reject or accept them.
