China's agrochemical companies saw an increase in profitability during the first six months of 2014, rising 6% on the previous year to Yuan 10,282 million ($1,666 million at the current rate). The data, recorded from 836 companies "of a certain scale", were collated by the National Bureau of Statistics, and reported by the China Crop Protection Industry Association. Profitability for the 704 manufacturers of "chemical pesticides" increased 7.5% during the first half to Yuan 9,415 million ($1,526 million). However the 132 "biochemical pesticide" companies saw profits slide 8.4% during the period, down to Yuan 866 million ($140 million).
