Russia plagued by counterfeit pesticides

The proportion of counterfeit pesticides out of the total used in Russia is among the highest in the world, says a report in the Russian agricultural portal, agroru.com. Estimates provided by the Russian Union of Manufacturers of Crop Protection Products (RUMCPP) reveal the share of counterfeit pesticides in Russia as ranging from 15% to 30%. The level of counterfeiting in 2006 was estimated at 10% (Agrow No 522, p 10). Some estimates have placed the value of counterfeits at some $85 million (Agrow Ho 590, p 14).
