The studies were conducted to understand the adaptation of some cultivars and hybrids of mango under Tripura conditions which is endowed with vast natural resources. The State is located at latitude 22 degrees 56' and 24 degrees 32' north and longitude 91 degrees 10' and 92 degrees 21' east, with total geographical area of about 10,491 km2 of which 60% is hill with dense forest and 27% is under cultivation. Mango is a popular fruit ranking next to jack fruit, banana, pineapple and citrus in total annual production. The climatic condition, fertile soil, sub-tropical climate and abundant rainfall favor mango cultivation. Three important hybrids and cultivars like 'Amarapali', 'Himsagar', 'Mallika' and some local types are grown commercially in different parts of Tripura. Area under 'Amarapali' cultivation is much higher than 'Himsagar' and 'Mallika'. The farming community of state earns a lot of income from cultivation of mangoes. Apart from being used as a table fruit, mango is a popular fruit among housewives for making pickles, squashes, syrups and other value added products. In Tripura it is cultivated as one of the major fruit crops and consumed immature and ripe. There is a high potential to increase cultivation area, production and value added products.
