IEA lowers 5-year global coal demand forecast by 500 mil mt

The International Energy Agency has lowered its five-yearglobal coal demand forecast through to 2020 by more than 500 milliontonnes of coal equivalent (Mtce) to 5,814 Mtce, due to a leveling off indemand from China. It now sees coal demand rising by an average of 0.8% a year to2020, with India driving that growth, the agency says in its Medium-Term Coal Market Report 2015 that was released Friday.
