Chile’s Mina Invierno slashes steam coal exports, seeks new markets

Chile’s largest steam coal producer Mina Invierno will reduce exports this year in the face of lower coal prices while it lifts domestic sales and seeks more lucrative markets abroad. The company, controlled by forestry and fuels conglomerate Empresas Copec and shipping group Ultramar, plans to sell 2.7 million mt this year to clients in Chile, up from 1.7 million mt in 2014, the company’s commercial and financial director Ian Philippi told Platts in an interview.
