CP reports higher coal revenues; CEO Harrison talks rail mergers

Canadian Pacific carried more metallurgical coal during the fourth quarter but less US thermal coal, resulting in higher coal revenues, and higher average revenue per carload within its coal franchise, company executives said Wednesday during the railroad's quarterly earnings call. The railroad reported Q4 coal carloads of 84,000, down 4.5% from the year-ago quarter; coal revenues totaled C$157 million, up 0.6%; and average revenue per coal carload totaled C$1,888, up 6.5%.
