Polyurethanes (PU) constitute an important class of polymers - the fifth largest (following polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene). It is amongst the few polymers that can behave as a thermoplastic or a thermoset (depending on its chemistry), with physical properties that range from the highly rigid to the flexible; and from elastomeric to plastic. PU can be processed into fibres, films & sheets, and most importantly, foamed to produce ubiquitous products including mattresses & seating and insulation.
