Indian engineering goods players finding it tough to access US markets

The US has imposed domestic content requirements on procurement of engineering goods and awarding of contracts for civil projects under the 'Buy America' clause of its fiscal stimulus package. Indian companies are losing out because of this, and the Commerce Ministry is worried. The issue was brought up at a recent meet- ing between the US Trade Representative (USTR) and the Indian Commerce Ministry. But the US wasn't willing to extend any special concessions, and has simply told India that if it does not want to lose out, it should sign the Government Procurement Agreement (GPA) for a level playing field.
