'Govt.aiming to hike R&D spend-to 2% of GDP'

Scientific research is not an end in itself and its benefits should percolate to the lowest strata of society, said Union Minister of Science & Technology, Mr. S. Jaipal Reddy. Speaking at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology's (I1CT) 70th Foundation Day celebrations in Hyderabad recently, Mr. Reddy said, "Scientific temperament cannot be confined to research laboratories, but spread far and wide and taken to all corners of the world. Science should be useful to all sections of society".
